Cientistas estimaram que ele tenha por volta de 400 anos. Para colocar isso em uma escala, esse tubarão provavelmente nasceu no reinado do rei Henrique VIII, e isso é impressionante.

De acordo com os pesquisadores da Shark Sider, o tubarão está cego já há um bom tempo. Isso pode ser devido ao fato de que parasitas muitas vezes invadem os olhos desses habitantes das águas profundas e prejudicam significativamente sua visão.
Esses tubarões movem-se em um ritmo muito lento para economizar energia, e é por isso que podem viver por séculos. E o seu crescimento também é lento – apenas um centímetro por ano.

Esse tubarão em particular tem 5 metros de comprimento e os cientistas estimam que sua idade gire em torno de 400 anos. Outros acham que ele pode ter quase 500, mas, de acordo com o The Washington Post, essa provavelmente é uma suposição imprecisa.
No entanto, 400 anos é uma enorme longevidade e esse tubarão é o mais antigo dentre os outros 28 tubarões descobertos por cientistas. Também vale a pena notar que quase nada é conhecido sobre seus hábitos de caça, já que eles vivem em grandes profundidades.
